Educate come from Latin, educare, to draw out.
The task of the teacher is to draw out the student’s potential.
Our role is to inspire kids to take the lead in their own learning. When it comes to writing, this is not how it’s done in traditional schools. There’s too much focus on structure & strategy, on stamping in the information. There’s not enough attention given to showing kids how to develop a positive emotional connection to the creative writing process.
When we allow the innate knowledge of the child to drive the writing process, it’s easier to express themselves. It’s more fun, too. That’s what happened to me when I discovered Jack Grapes’ Method Writing. That’s why I started Word Up Kids.
There’s a better way for kids to bridge the gap between thought & expression. Check it out.
